Who the S is for

The S is the automatic cabinet in the range, for garages and diagnostic workshops that clean car and van filters regularly and want every job to run the same way. Once the filter is clamped in and connected, one button runs the whole wash sequence, the cabinet dries the filter with heated air, and a printed before-and-after record goes to the customer with the car.

It suits a workshop where more than one technician will use the machine, because the programme, not the operator, sets the wash. It also suits businesses that sell cleaning on evidence: the pre-test tells you, and the customer, what state the filter arrived in before any money is spent on it.

  • Heavy-duty work. Truck, bus, plant and agricultural filters need the longer working space of the XL platform.
  • Cleaning from a van. The S is a workshop machine; the V is designed around a van installation.
  • A first, occasional step into cleaning on a tight budget, where the E or the DPF Lite will usually make more sense.
  • Filters that are cracked, melted or otherwise damaged. Cleaning removes ash and soot; it doesn’t repair a substrate.
METClean E
You want a lower-cost cabinet with simple analogue control and a cold-air purge, and you don’t need the pre-test, the printout or hot drying.
METClean XL Multi+
Your work includes HGV, bus, plant or agricultural filters, or you need a larger chamber and heavy-duty clamping.
METClean DPF Lite
Space or budget rules out a cabinet and you are cleaning occasionally rather than every day.

Filters it takes

The S is built for diesel particulate filters from cars and light commercial vehicles. The filter is clamped inside the cabinet by a pneumatic ram, facing away from the door, and connected to the wash hose at its outlet through an adaptor, so water runs through it against the normal exhaust direction.

The attachment kit covers most common filters. Some need an adaptor modifying first, and a filter with pipes or sensor cables still attached has those secured before it goes in. If you work on a particular make or a combined DPF and catalyst unit, ask us to check it at the demonstration.

A normal job, start to finish

The sequence below follows the S operating instructions. Times and settings are adjustable on the touchscreen; MET’s recommended values are covered in training.

  1. Check the machine. Power and compressed air connected, the tank full and the machine level. The filter shouldn’t be heavily contaminated with oil or coolant before it goes in.
  2. Find the flow direction. Inspect the filter to work out its exhaust flow. The S washes in the opposite direction, from the outlet side.
  3. Connect and clamp. Fit a suitable adaptor to the filter outlet, clamp it to the braided wash hose, then secure the filter with the clamping ram and double-check it before closing the door.
  4. Pre-test. Air is passed through the filter to give a back-pressure reading of the filter as it arrived. This is the before figure on the printout.
  5. Automatic clean. A soft start brings water in at low pressure, then the main wash runs, with timed high-pressure bursts at the interval set on the screen. A beacon and an audible alert signal the end.
  6. Dry. Swap to the drying hose and run the hot dry. A cold-air purge also clears residual water from the filter at the end of the cycle.
  7. Test, print and hand back. A final reading gives the after figure, and the printout records your company, the technician, the customer and the filter’s serial number.

How many filters you can clean in a day depends on the wash and drying times you set, how blocked the filters are and whether the next filter is ready to load. Cycle duration is not yet published while MET confirms measured profiles, so plan capacity with us using your own job mix rather than a headline number.

A heavily saturated filter, mainly a combined DPF and catalyst, may not dry fully in the machine. It then needs finishing in a drying oven or on the vehicle with a driving cycle, which affects how quickly it can go back to the customer.

Clean, dry, test, record

What the S does at each stage, and what each result does and doesn’t tell you.

Cleaning
Soft start, then a pulsed high-pressure wash through the filter against the exhaust direction, with burst length and gap set on the screen. Ash and soot are carried out with the water into the machine’s filtration.Yes, burst length and gap adjustable
Drying
Heated air in the cabinet with adjustable time and temperature, plus a cold compressed-air purge. Some filters still need finishing on the vehicle.Yes, adjustable time and temperature
Testing
A back-pressure reading before and after the clean, compared on the same machine. Readings depend on your compressor and supply, so they show change on your machine rather than certify a filter.Yes, before and after cleaning
Reporting
A printout for the customer’s records with the before and after readings and the job details entered on the touchscreen.Yes, company, operator, customer, filter serial number

Closed-loop water and waste handling

The S operates as a closed-loop system. Water is held in the machine tank, with approved cleaning product where specified, and pumped through the filter during the cleaning cycle. The returning water passes through the machine’s filtration and settlement system, which captures soot, ash and other contamination before the water is circulated again. One tank fill supports multiple cleaning cycles rather than water being discharged continuously.

30–40cleaning cycles expected per tank fill. A heavily contaminated filter can load the water and filters more quickly.

When the water reaches the end of its useful service, the machine is isolated and emptied following the operating and maintenance instructions. Used water, sediment, sludge and spent filters are kept and disposed of through your approved waste-disposal route, never to ground, surface water or an ordinary drain. The tank, filter housings and reusable filters are cleaned before the machine is refilled.

  1. Step 1: TankFilled with the required volume of water, plus approved cleaning product where specified.
  2. Step 2: PumpSoft start, then pulsed flow through the filter against the exhaust direction.
  3. Step 3: Filter in the chamberWater leaving the DPF returns to the machine, not to a drain.
  4. Step 4: Filtration and settlementCaptures soot, ash and contamination before the water recirculates.
  5. Step 5: End of serviceIsolate, empty, retain water, sediment and spent filters for approved disposal. Clean tank and filters, then refill.

Owning an S

Delivery, installation and training

Before delivery we agree the site with you: where the cabinet will stand, the electrical supply and protective device, the compressed-air supply, water for filling and how the tank will be emptied. Delivery and fitting are included: we deliver the S and set it up in your workshop, within the UK as standard and worldwide on request.

Training happens on your machine with your team: loading and clamping, choosing and adjusting programmes, drying, testing and printing, and the daily maintenance that keeps the water and filters in condition. Training more than one technician means cleaning doesn’t depend on one person.

Maintenance and parts

Day to day, the operator keeps the chamber clear, checks the filter housings and watches the water condition. When the water reaches the end of its service, the machine is isolated, emptied and cleaned, and the bag and cartridge elements are inspected or changed following MET’s filter-changing instructions.

Replacement filter elements, adaptors and other consumables come from the MET shop. Keep the machine’s serial number to hand when ordering parts or asking for help.

Warranty and support

The S has a twelve-month warranty. If a fault can’t be put right with our help over the phone or remotely, an engineer comes to your site. Service and extended warranty plans are available on request, and cover depends on following the safety and operating instructions.

When you ask for help, send the model and serial number, what the machine was doing, any alarm shown on the screen, and a photo of the printout or the filter. It is usually the quickest way to a fix.

Manuals and evidence

Questions buyers ask

Can every filter be dried in the machine?

No. Some DPFs can’t be fully dried off the vehicle and need finishing on the car.

Will every filter connect?

Most connect with the supplied adaptors. Some need an adaptor modifying first.

Why might my pressure readings vary?

Readings depend on your compressor and your supply voltage, so compare before and after on the same machine.
