This is a planning checklist, not a promise of earnings or a substitute for advice about your particular business. The approved actions remain the backbone of the plan. The extra notes and links help you check the practical details before money is committed.
Mobile Eco Tuning: Roadmap to Profitability
Use the seven approved phases to turn the idea into a workable plan. Tick items as decisions are confirmed, add your own notes and print the completed checklist for your accountant, insurer, installer or finance discussion.
Use this with the full setup guide
The checklist records what needs deciding. The complete guide to starting a mobile DPF cleaning business explains the trade-hub model, van requirements, daily workflow, waste responsibilities and realistic return calculations in more detail.

Phase 1 of 7
Phase 1: Legal & financial foundation
Register as a Limited Company for liability protection and set up a dedicated business bank account.
Secure Public Liability (£2M+), Professional Indemnity, Motor Trade (Service Indemnity), and Equipment Cover.
Register with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier to legally transport DPF residues, checking with them which registration tier applies.
Check before ticking
The approved plan uses a limited company as its starting position, and leaves the waste-carrier tier to the Environment Agency. Ask the accountant to confirm the structure, and describe the actual service to the environmental regulator before registering. Waste-carrier tiers depend on what waste is carried and who produced it, so the correct tier is not identical for every mobile operator. Start with the official waste-carrier registration guidance.

Phase 2 of 7
Phase 2: The mobile workshop (the van)
Source a medium-sized van (e.g., Ford Transit Custom, VW Transporter). Priority: Payload capacity and reliability.
Install heavy-duty flooring, internal racking for adapters & consumables, and ensure space for secure mounting points for the METClean V.
Apply high-quality vinyl decals. Focus on: "Mobile DPF Cleaning," your logo, and a clear call to action.
Plan the whole load
Check the van using the machine at its working weight, then add the driver, water, compressor, battery or inverter system, racking, adaptors, tools and consumables. Confirm total payload, individual axle loads, mounting and safe access with competent installers. The METClean machine site-requirements guide provides the starting dimensions and utilities.

Phase 3 of 7
Phase 3: Equipment & installation
Acquire the flagship automated cleaning unit. Consider lease-purchase options to manage initial cash flow.
Ensure the van has a 13 A power supply (or battery/inverter), 150L water storage, and a 5–8 bar compressed air source.
Purchase DPF Pressure Test Kits, OBD-II diagnostic scanners, and a full set of mechanical hand tools.
Pro Tip: The MET Advantage
The METClean V uses micro-cavitation technology, and on a structurally sound filter METClean can restore flow efficiency to up to 98% of a new DPF's. Highlighting this capability, with its qualification, is your primary USP.
Approved customer-facing qualification: METClean achieves up to 98% restorative performance against a new filter when the filter is structurally serviceable. Cleaning cannot repair a cracked, melted or oil-damaged substrate.
Match the quote to the van
The approved checklist allows for 150 litres of van water storage. The current METClean V specification lists an internal tank of 80 litres and an air supply of 5–8 bar. Confirm the machine, attachments, delivery, installation, compressor and power arrangement in the written quote. The live shop page carries current purchasing and finance information.

Phase 4 of 7
Phase 4: Training & technical mastery
Complete the MET manufacturer training to master automated cycles and machine maintenance.
Learn to identify the "root cause" of blockages (EGR, Glow Plugs, Turbos) to prevent immediate re-blocking. View In-depth DPF Technician Guide (PDF)
Agree who is responsible for diagnosis
In a trade-hub service, the garage may retain responsibility for diagnosis, removal and refitting while you provide the filter clean. If you offer the complete mechanical job, include the diagnostic tools, training, insurance, working time and customer terms in the plan.
Training date, skills gaps and support contacts
Phase 5 of 7
Phase 5: Building your digital presence
Use the METBooker Website add-on to publish a mobile-first site with clear DPF services, prices where enabled, opening hours, the areas you cover, trust information and direct booking actions.
Set up METBooker booking and diary management so customers can request or book appropriate DPF work around the clock, while your availability, travel rules, notice periods, job length and daily limits control what is offered.
Build the actual work you sell in METBooker, such as diagnosis, off-vehicle cleaning, removal and refitting, trade filter-only work and optional extras. Give each service the right duration, price, deposit, questions and compatible add-ons so the customer books the correct job.
Configure the mobile DPF operating area, travel time and availability rules. METBooker can check whether the address is within coverage and whether the engineer can reach it without creating an impossible diary.
Use METBooker's website and search-visibility features to publish crawlable service information, business identity, coverage, opening hours, canonical URLs, robots controls, a sitemap and consistent structured information that search engines and AI assistants can understand.
Configure deposits, balance links, QR payments, counter payments and refunds against the correct booking. Money goes through your configured payment provider, with payment and refund activity kept against the job.
Use METBooker customer and vehicle information to keep the contact, registration, vehicle details, MOT history and relevant job information with the booking, reducing repeated questions and helping the technician prepare for the work.
Set up confirmation, reschedule, cancellation, payment-link, ready-for-collection and review-request emails. Where appropriate, use service and MOT reminders to bring previous customers back without relying on someone remembering to follow up manually.
Configure invoices, credit notes, VAT treatment and bookkeeping exports so the invoice is built from the work booked and money received instead of being typed again after the job.
Add genuine Google reviews where configured and use the METBooker Website add-on's privacy-conscious page-view and action tracking to see whether visitors call, request directions or move into the booking journey.
If the business grows beyond one person, use METBooker to control which team member can carry out each service, allocate work to an eligible diary and track the job from booked through to complete. The dashboard also keeps outstanding balances and work needing attention visible.
One connected customer journey
METBooker for DPF specialists connects the public website, SEO-ready service information, booking rules, DPF job type, customer and vehicle details, messages, deposits, payments, diary, job progress and invoice. See the full METBooker feature list when planning the setup. The information still needs to be accurate and approved by the business, and no platform can promise a Google ranking or an AI citation.

Phase 6 of 7
Phase 6: The trade hub (local outreach)
Visit 10-20 local garages. Offer a "Trade Rate" of £120-£150, allowing them to mark up the service to their clients.
Distribute MET-branded leaflets to garages to display in their customer waiting areas.
Record more than a garage name
For each visit, note the person responsible for DPF work, current supplier, typical turnaround, likely monthly volume, agreed trade price and next action. Mobile Eco Tuning supplies custom METClean DPF leaflets that can carry your own workshop details.
Target garages, contacts and follow-up dates
Phase 7 of 7
Phase 7: Profitability & ROI tracking
- Retail Revenue
- £250 - £350
- Per cleaning session
- Operating Cost
- £1
- Filter count reduction & power per clean
Aim for 1-2 cleans per day. With METClean V, you are profitable at just 4-5 cleans per week.
Stick to weekly sediment filter checks to protect the uptime of your equipment.
Use the approved figures as planning inputs
Revenue is not the same as profit, and the £1 figure covers only the stated cleaning consumables and power. Add finance, van, fuel, travel time, insurance, filters, waste, card fees, marketing, maintenance, tax and your own time. Use the METClean ROI calculator and test a cautious, likely and busy case using your own written quotes.
Prices, costs, weekly target and review date
What “ready to start” looks like
The checklist is complete when the actions are backed by evidence: written insurance confirmation, the correct waste registration, a checked payload calculation, an equipment and installation quote, completed training, a tested booking journey, a list of garages already approached and a cash-flow plan using real costs.
If several answers are still estimates, that does not mean the business idea is weak. It means those are the next questions to answer before signing finance or fixing a launch date.
Business plan checklist FAQs
Is this checklist a complete business plan?
It covers the main setup decisions, but your final plan should also contain local demand evidence, written equipment and insurance quotes, a cash-flow forecast and the prices you expect to charge. An accountant can help turn those figures into a formal plan for finance or investment.
Do I have to form a limited company?
The approved MET checklist uses a limited company as its planned structure. Other structures exist, so confirm the tax, liability and administrative implications with an accountant before registering.
Which waste-carrier registration tier is correct?
The correct tier depends on the waste being carried, who produced it and how the business provides the service. Describe the intended mobile operation to the Environment Agency, or the relevant regulator outside England, and obtain the appropriate registration before transporting waste.
What matters most when selecting the van?
Payload and axle loading come first. Check the machine at working weight, water, compressor, power system, racking, tools, consumables and driver together. Space, safe anchoring, access and reliability then determine whether the van is workable day to day.
Does the METClean V purchase include METBooker?
Not automatically. METBooker is an optional separate subscription for bookings, deposits, mobile coverage, job information, payments and invoicing. Any inclusion must be stated in the written quotation.
How should the 98% METClean result be described?
Use the qualified wording: METClean achieves up to 98% restorative performance against a new filter when the filter is structurally serviceable. Cleaning cannot repair a cracked, melted or oil-damaged filter or fix the vehicle fault that caused the blockage.
